First of all, I have to point out there isn't an ounce of old-boys'-club motivation in this post. I don't know the guy who runs the blog "Manuscripts Burn" -- don't even know his name -- but he's doing something so cool I have to talk about it here.
He's doing "The Hundie Challenge" -- trying to read Modern Library's top 100 novels in a single year -- and after each finished book, he's vlogging a reaction. Like I said, pretty cool.
He's already read a bunch of my favorites (Catch-22, Invisible Man, The Postman Always Rings Twice, and Deliverance), a few I've been wanting to read (Go Tell It on the Mountain, On the Road, and Brave New World), a few I should reread (A Farewell to Arms, The Sound and the Fury, and Ragtime), one I'll probably never read (Finnegan's Wake), the most boring book I ever read (Sister Carrie), and several others (check out his site if you want to see).
A daunting task, reading all those books in a single year, and I wish this guy luck. It's awesome that he's giving it a run, and I'll be interested to see how he does. If nothing else, I'm sure he's triggering a lot of others -- I know I can raise my hand for this one -- to rethink our reading. I used to read more than I do now. Maybe it's time to get back to that...
