Yes!
Having just received a check for the TV thing, I reinvested a chunk this morning, registering for ThrillerFest and reserving a room at the good old Grand Hyatt. This year, I'm looking out to hanging with friends from ThrillerFests past, especially Pete Aragno, as well as a brand new attendee, thriller writer, Apache helicopter pilot, and all-around cool guy, Don Bentley, who was one of my main critique partners for Dissident.
Anyone else going?

JOHN, Congratulations on that first check! Recognition is cool but cash is king! I will be at Thrillerfest but work commitments may force me to scale back my attendance. I'll certainly be there for Craftfest and Agentfest.
Also looking forward to NECON. I will be there for the duration and hopefully survive to write another day.
Awesome news, Pete! I'm stoked. And who knows: maybe you'll be able to swing by in the evenings after any days you miss. I hope so, as I doubt you'll survive Necon. Few do...
I'll definitely be staying as late as possible. As for Necon, I'm in training - cardio, weightlifting and a little mma. With all that I should be able to get through the first night but day 2 might prove the end for this old dog.
Glad you're in training. If you survive the first night, your chances are good. It's that first one that takes most people.
Just finished the Forever War on New Years Day. Which pre-empted a full 24 hour binge into Stranger in a Strange Land. Just started Scalzi's Old Man's War, I've been nagged for a few years to try to grok it. Anyhow, It got me remembering the first time I read Haldeman, and I figured I should come here and give thanks. Congrats on the TV gig, I'm looking forward to Dissident
-Aquafraternally Yours,
have a great time, John; will you be there for your birthday? I could determine that for myself by going back to the blog and checking but it looks like I'm not gonna do that.

PAT: Is this Pat "Point of No Return" W? Thanks for stopping by, and of course I love all the books you've mentioned -- including OLD MAN'S WAR, a very Heinlein-feeling book. I aslo enjoyed Scalzi's AGENT TO THE STARS, a sci fi comedy. He's really good. Let me konw how you like OLD MAN'S WAR.
ADAM: Thanks, pal! No, but I'll be there for my half-birthday, if there is such a thing. It takes place in July and does encompass the 13th. It's a big committment, money-wise, but a great con. Can't wait.
Nope its Pat "will to live" S. From a decade ago. Grabbed Agent on the kindle as well. As well as a few anthologies. Girlfriend's out of town until Sunday, plenty of reading to get done.
Excellent! And I remember "Will to Live" very well. A satisfyingly grim story, a Young Author winner, and, of course, a Squid story. Great to hear from you. I hope you like Agent. One friend thought it tried to hard, but I thought it was hilarious -- and very well written. Definitely a fun read.
